About this collection

As the title indicates a book on the history of the General Hospital of Belfast and other principal medical institutions of the town. The preface also states:

"we have taken the liberty of incorporating with it a chronological record of interesting events, as illustrative of the progress and growing prosperity of Belfast from the earliest times"

The book dates from 1851 and contains a number of illustrations, such as St. Ann's Church, Queen's College Belfast, the Poor House, and a floor plan of the General Hospital. For ease of viewing the illustrations have been added separately as images as well as part of the book.
