About this collection

The Jewish Gazette was a monthly journal, published from January to December 1933 and February 1934, by Jacob Levey. Advertised as 'Ireland's only Jewish Journal' it provides a fascinating glimpse into the life of the Jewish community in Ireland. There is also commentary on the persecution of Jews in Germany at the time.

The editorial in the first issue states:

"The Jewish Gazette makes its bow to the Jewish public in Ireland. Briefly, our purpose is to record and comment on Jewish activities in Ireland in every sphere, whether charitable, religious, cultural, or Zionist; to crystallise Jewish opinion in Ireland on subjects of controversial or general communal interest; and also to act as the forum from which every shade of Jewish opinion in the country will find its expression."
